We bring you two pivotal episodes of The X Files, which is also our first super-sized two parter. We discuss “Duane Barry”, full of twist and turns and speedos, then cover the suspenseful “Ascension”, with Mulder Taking it Personally (TM). We admire some stellar guest acting from CCH Pounder and Steve Railsback, a too in detail discussion on the depiction of grocery stores, and the roots of the mythology as established in this two parter. In the segments, we have our most contentious Mulder rating to date and a fruitful reflection on the medium of tv and its strengths.

We have made it to the season one finale! This week we watched “The Erlenmeyer Flask” and this episode has it all: Car chases! Alien viruses! Deep Throat! We discuss how this episode lays the foundation for The X Files’ interesting and frequently convoluted mythology episodes, and have a long discussion about the science of the alien bacteria and/or virus.
